Types of Farm Tractors
A farm tractor is a multi-purpose distinctive farm vehicle. Out of all the farm tools, it is most essential. With a variety of different farm equipment, you can use a tractor to perform very different agricultural tasks. These may include disking, shoveling, planting, tilling, lifting, transporting, harrowing as well as providing power supply. Farm tractors were first introduced in the nineteenth century. They had steam powered engines that were portable then the traction engine tractors. After technology evolved, the oil burning powered engine tractors were used for a period of time. Internal combustion engines that were gasoline-powered became popular after 1920. The first tractors had a fixed distance front wheel which had a solid front axle. The tricycle type tractor came after and had two wheels very close to each other or a single front wheel. These designs were popular from 1930s to 1970s. The four wheel tractors were deemed most popular because they were safer as well as easier to handle. The three wheeled tractors were prone to keel over more than the four wheel tractors. The four wheel tractor has two rear steerable wheels which are below the engine compartment and two large driving wheels which are on an axle. There is an enclosed driving cab where the steering wheel and the seat are in the centre of the wheels. In the modern market, there are tractors that have eight wheels, articulated or non-articulated tractors as well as caterpillar tractors. There are computer controlled tractors as well as electrical ones which are capable of carrying out different functions.
